Vision, Mission and Goal

Mission: Lawyers' National Campaign for Elimination of Caste Discrimination (LANCAU Nepal) is dedicated to ending the crime of untouchability through legal advocacy, research, and training to work towards accountability and implementation of existing anti-discriminatory laws and policies. As a multi-caste, multi-professional organization, LANCAU Nepal strategically positions itself to bridge the gap between high-level policy reform and on-the-ground social change, by working with the government, private organizations, and public institutions in order to create a nation where not a single person remains untouchable.

Vision: Lawyers' National Campaign for Elimination of Caste Discrimination (LANCAU Nepal) envisions an equitable society in which each person, regardless of his or her caste, enjoys a dignified existence free of discrimination; in which all enjoy free and equal access to education, economic resources, social, cultural, religious and political life. We envision a society that will be characterized by a profound change of mentality, in which discriminators recognize the crime of their actions and the discriminated embody and assert their legal and human rights. For this, LANCAU , Nepal will be a leading organization working against untouchability.

Goal: The goal of the LANCAU within 2008-12 is to:
"Prepare critical mass, facilitate to design untouchabiltiy-free legislations and legal framework and ensure effective institutions for the elimination of the crime of untouchability and all forms of untouchability based discrimination."

Objectives: The following objectives have been taken into consideration to achieve the above-mentioned goal subject to change in timely manner:
  1. Objective 1 To urge the Nepal government to advance its legislative framework in order to prohibit discrimination against Dalits and ensure equal rights for all
  2. Objective 2 To facilitate Government of Nepal to formulate and implement the programme to address the discrimination practices
  3. Objective 3 To strengthen partnerships with key persons and organizations who are committed to stopping discrimination against victim of untouchabilty , so that the fight to eliminate untouchability is undertaken simultaneously in various sectors
  4. Objective 4 To enhance the opportunity of Dalits to access public and private services
  5. Objective 5 To contribute attitudinal change regarding untouchability
  6. Objective 6 To expand the activities in different parts of the country
  7. Objective 7 To make LANCAU institutionally capacious to fight against the issue
